c. Broadcastin:
and short-wave.
Three transmitters ore in use
European, Chinese
All are in extremely poor condition and are kept
going on a day to day basis. It is hoped to receive two new
medium-wave broadcasting transmitters within the next fe. months,
but no replacement has so far been ordered for short-wave broad-
casting. This matter is being dealt with elsewhere.
d. Press. A press reception section has been established and a
large amount of press is received and distributed free of cost
for various news agencies. This practice will cease t the end
of the year when agencies will take over their own reception
under licence.
e. Workshops.
Workshops, test, repair and laboratory sections
have been re-established in a sm: 11 way, but shortage or both staff
and equipment is severe.
f. Sites. Government radio station sites in Cape D'Aguilar,
Victoria Peak and loyal observatory have been surveyed and are
being prepared for the installation of plant and equipment.
These sites, and also that at Hung Hom need extensive attention.
2. Equipment. The programme for rehabilitation of the extensive
services of this department must be delayed by the almost com-
plote absence of plant and equipment until indents are filled.
It is hoped to receive a smell consignment from SEAC before long.
h. Licensing & Inspection. Owing to loss or records and absence
of old staff, this section is not yet going.
1. Miscellaneous. A start has been made in printing the many forms
required by this dept. most of which have to be redrawn from
momory.
Considerable time has been spent on throwing out
old and useless material taken over from the Japs.
